It was Carter's first Halloween today. Not that he would have noticed. In any event, we dressed him up for the occasion in a onesie from his Aunt Kelsy and a hat and stockings from Gramma Leah. We ended up with an even 60 trick-or-treaters tonight. This included one that just walked right in our door when he saw Hank (our dog, for those of you who haven't met Hank) at the end of the hallway. It turned out to be one of our neighbors from across the street out on his first trick-or-treat night who we didn't recognize at first because he was in costume. Anyway, it was a fun night for all (well, maybe not Hank, who was not allowed to come to the door to say "hi" to anyone). -John (& family)

First Snow...
...on the ground tonight. No pictures of Carter in the snow, though. Too young, too dark outside, too cold. However, here are the pictures of the day of Carter inside and warm (although, we did go for a walk this morning when the weather was, relatively speaking, a little more pleasant for venturing out in by little babies).

More Greats! Aunt Jen and Uncle Bill
A couple of more Greats stopped by this afternoon to pay their first visit to Carter: Great Aunt Jen and Great Uncle Bill. Carter was nicer to his Great Uncle Bill upon being introduced than I was. Carter did not spit up on him. When I first met Uncle Bill, so the story goes, I promptly spit up on him. A "great" must be worth more respect than just a normal uncle, I guess. :-)
We (Alicia, Carter, Hank, and me) also went for another walk today. It might be the last for a few days as it is supposed to be quite windy for the start of the week.

Carter's First Hike
We (Carter, Alicia, Kelsy, Marnie, and me) went hiking today along Thomas Creek. It's not a hard hike, but it is a very nice hike to do this time of year. As you can see from the pictures, the fall colors are out in full force. Carter was quite the trooper: he made it through the whole thing without crying once... or even waking up once. So, while it was his first hike, I'm pretty sure that he was not awake long enough to appreciate it. In any event, we enjoyed the hike, and the pictures of Carter on his first hike ought to make for good memories. -John (& family)

Aunts Kelsy and Marnie are Here!
Carter's Aunts Kelsy and Marnie arrived today to spend a long weekend with him. As you can tell from the pictures, they had quite the exciting day with him. Also, another video is included with today's blog. As with the previous "Stretching and Sneeze," "Fussy with Head Turn" should be all the rage on the web. O.k., maybe not. But those of you following this blog might like it. Also, note the new link at the above-left to Carter's Fourth Week picture album. -John (and family)

Carter Pictures of the Day
Based on the feedback we've been getting, it looks like Carter does have a little bit of a fan base. So, I'll keep the updates coming. The highlight of the day was the maiden voyage of Carter's jog stroller. Forgot the camera for that, though, so you'll have to wait until the second outing for jog stroller pictures. Anyway, enjoy! -John (and family)
"I think I need to keep my eyes on you!"
Tiny Carter down for a nap in his crib (don't worry, Carter's
pediatrician says tummy naps are o.k. as long as an adult is
awake near by).

More Carter!
The Carter update for today: he slept, he fed, he filled his diapers, he looked around some, and he cried some (mostly about the departure of his Great Aunt Millie back to Iowa). All in all, a good day. Anyway, I'm posting a picture and a video for today. The video is about 30 seconds of riveting stretching with a fascinating sneeze in the middle. I'm guessing it will go viral. :-) O.k., maybe not. But... as this blog is about a week old, my guess is that, if you're still following it, you will, actually, find the video riveting. Don't forget, if you want more pictures, I'm linking to our Picasa albums at the top left of this blog page. -John (and family)
